ولد فقيراً وعمل حمالًا وحارسًا خلال المراحل الأولى من حياته… وتحول للعمل بالتجارة حتى جمع ثروة طائلة، وفي نهاية حياته كتب وصيته بطريقة مختلفة لم يترك شاردة أو واردة إلا وتطرق لها فيها… إنه الشيخ سليمان الراجحي أحد رواد مجال الوقف في المملكة العربية السعودية والعالم.

وجاء في وصيته:

” أوصي ذريتي من بعدي أنه حينما تظهر علامات الضعف المؤثرة في أهليتي وقدرتي أني قد فوضت مجلس النظارة بما لا يقل عن ثلثي أعضائه أن يقرر إعفائي ويلغي سلطتي، وأن يباشر حينئذ إدارة الوقف شؤونه وشؤوني، ويحل مجلس النظارة محلي في كل شيء بإطلاق. وإني أوصي المجلس وذريتي ألا يشعروني بضعفي.  فإن أدليت بأمر يرى المجلس عدم صلاحيته فلا يؤخذ به. وتكون استشارتي من باب الاستئناس فقط، ولا يرفع للمحاكم بالعزل ولا الوصاية فليس ذلك من بري ولا من مصلحة الأسرة ما دمت قد أعطيت كل واحد من ذريتي نصيبه وأوكلت أوقافي إلى مجلس أثق به. والله المستعان..

وأوصي أولادي إن ضعفت صحتي واحتجت إلى متابعة طبية مستمرة فتكون إقامتي في مستشفى البيكيرية التابع لجامعتي إن كان جاهزا أو فى أحد المستشفيات الحكومية أو الخاصة على حساب الوقف، ولا تكون في منزلي. ويؤتى بأطباء، ولا تكون خارج المملكة وأن يتابع تمريضي ممرضون، وليس ممرضات قدر المستطاع “.

لقد ترك الشيخ سليمان من خلال وصيته نموذجاً مميزاً في كيفية التعامل مع الوقف وإدارته والاستفادة منه بما يحفظ الأموال التي أوصي بها لأجله.
